Lines Crossed At The Terminal had some world class help when putting together their debut EP. The seven tracks that are now out in the world and winning the Victorian band’s fans may have been recorded in singer Matt Govan’s bedroom, but they were mixed by US producer Mike Major, famous for his work with acts such as Sparta and At The Drive In.

With a run-time of just over half an hour, the EP consists of fairly typical three minute punk rock tunes with a distinctive do-it-yourself, unpolished vibe. However, the bands undeniable talent and the influence of their famous producer Mike Major, both serve to sharpen the tracks up and deliver a more refined edge. The opening track ‘This silent phone call’ introduces the bands mid-2000s take on punk rock and sounds like it would be a definite crowd pleaser when the band takes the stage. The stand out track for me, ‘How long would you wait for’, also sounds like a track that would be best heard live, but holds its own as a track that would have you dangerously throwing your head around while driving on a busy freeway.

Overall, the disc is a very solid first effort. I am not totally convinced that the band deserves all the hype that they seem to be getting (or that their Myspace page would have you believe), but they certainly have showcased a talent for song writing and a strong sound which poses a new challenge. Indeed, the true test for the band, who is currently touring their home state of Victoria, will be whether or not they can build from this, and live up to the hype that they are currently receiving.
