The Country Music Train from Geelong that visits Tamworth during the January Festival each year will be a loss in 2009.
Recent reports received have informed Tourism Tamworth of the operation being placed in to administration, leaving over 100 confirmed Festival-goers working to secure alternative travel and accommodation.
Tourism Tamworth is currently assisting any travellers seek alternate arrangements and working to not let the Country Music Train’s demise affect the visitors overall impressions and feeling toward Tamworth and the Festival.
“The Country Music Train has been a unique asset to the Festival and a different offering and option for visitors to travel to and stay at the Festival. It will be sadly missed in 2009, however our number one priority at present is to service as best we can those passengers who are currently seeking assistance in still being able to attend the Festival”, said Ms Rebel Thomson, Tourism Tamworth General Manager.
Tourism Tamworth is not aware of any of the communications the operators of the Country Music Train have had with confirmed passengers nor has Tourism Tamworth discussed the matter directly with the organisers.
With the need to help find accommodation for the passengers still making the pilgrimage, Tourism Tamworth believes it is important for the local community and business houses to be aware that accommodation is still available throughout the Festival.
“We can always fit someone else in, there are many accommodation options offered during the Festival and Tamworth has the unique luxury in being able to source accommodation for anyone seeking it during the Festival. At this late stage it may not be the exact motel, Farmstay or tent they were initially wanting but we will always find a bed for a friend or visitor of Tamworth”, added Ms Thomson.
The 2009 Tamworth Country Music Festival, presented by Telstra will run 16th – 26th January 2009 including Australia Day Celebrations. The Countdown to Festival activities and scheduled entertainment will commence from the 9th of January.
