The Hives sign to Dew Process

Those dapper gentlemen — be-suited in black and white, beholden of rugged good looks and sheer rock’n’roll brilliance — The Hives, have gotten in bed with Dew Process for a sexy little hook up for their forthcoming album due out in the first half of 2010.

With their garage rock swagger, The Hives carved a niche in the early naughties. Singles ‘Idiot Walk’ and ‘Hate To Say I Told You So’ are staples on indie dance floors across the world. From their 1997 debut “Barely Legal” through to their 2000 follow up “Veni, Vidi, Vicious” and their hit album full of killer singles “Your New Favourite Band”, The Hives have stood out from the pack. In 2004 “Tyrannosaurus Hives” added another string to their bow, which garnered further worldwide critical and commercial acclaim.

The Hives hit Australian shores for Falls Festivals, Southbound and Sunset Sounds last year blowing minds with hits from ”The Black and White Album” including the massive ‘Tick, Tick, Boom’. It was hot, hot, hot and not just because of the Australian summer. With Howlin’ Pelle Almquist at the helm, the Swedish rockers melted many a pounding heart.

For a bit of fun this Christmas, the five Royal Princes of Hives take us into the holiday season with a on-off Yule-tide tribute with the Queen of Queens from Queens, Cyndi Lauper.

Dubbed ‘A Christmas Duel’ it’s a love song duet without the sentiment, with the opening line in Howlin’ Pelle Almquist’s dulcet tones intimating “I bought no gift this year/and I slept with your sister!” matched by Cyndi Lauper’s trademark yewl of “I bought no tree this year/and I slept with your brother/I wrecked your daddy’s car/and went down on your mother”.

A tongue-in-cheek track getting to the heart of Christmas cynicism, we mean cheer, with the rousing chorus “Let’s spend, spend spend/this Christmas together”, our protagonists get through their cheating, boozing ways to come together for the holidays.

Our real present to you in the form of a brand new album from The Hives is due out in the first half of 2010 through Dew Process.

Once off track “A Christmas Duel” is available for free download from dew-process.com from December 7th, keep your eye on I’m With The Band as we’ll have it available as a download!
