The Sunpilots have long been referred to as one of Australia’s best kept rock secrets. The Sydney based four piece formed in 2005 but let the cat out of the bag mid last year with the release of their first single ‘Spotlight in the Sun’. Few other independent bands can claim to have snagged the most added song on Australian radio, an iTunes Single of the Week, the most watched Australian music video on You Tube, regular airplay on Video Hits and Channel V and a top 100 most played song, all with their debut track. Now, with their new single ’You’re Gonna Be a Star’ as the stepping stone to the release of their debut album ‘Living Receiver’, The Sunpilots are excited to announce a national tour.
The ‘Living Receiver’ tour spans three months and promises passionate and energetic shows delivered with a confidence rarely found in such a young band. With front man Raj Siva-Rajah at the helm, The Sunpilots deliver their live shows with a striking presence conveying songs full of bitter sweet lyrics laced with melodic guitar driven rock.
Born to a classically trained Sri Lankan mother, Raj grew up mastering the intricate classical Carnatic music of the east, whilst simultaneously falling in love with the gritty angst that was the grunge era. Blending the two The Sunpilots are set to deliver their astounding debut album which intertwines the refined complexity of the east with the direct energy and power of the west. Co-produced by Aussie producer Phil McKellar (Silverchair, Grinspoon, Kisschasy) and mastered in New York by Ted Jensen (Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance), ‘Living Receiver’ has been a year in the making and will be made available on August 2 through MGM.
With ‘Living Receiver’ less than two months from release and a comprehensive national album tour throughout July, August and September, be sure to get on the band wagon as the buzz for The Sunpilots continues to grow!
