After releasing two critically acclaimed records, Sunderland’s Field Music decided to stop being a band in the ‘traditional sense’. So now Field Music’s two creators, brothers David and Peter Brewis, are working on ‘solo projects’ where they help each other (yes, kind of like the Broken Social Scene thing). The Week That Was is Peter’s brainchild and it’s a beautifully realised vision. Echoing the lush 80s Brit-pop of groups like XTC, and the sparse, slowburning production of Pink Floyd, The Week That Was is as arresting as it is cinematic. The percussive rhythms throughout songs like ‘The Airport Line’ give this album a unique energy.
